Evaluation Criteria 

The Nominating Committee will utilize the nominee application and interview process to consider, at minimum, the following criteria when making final determination of the nominees to be included on the election ballot: 

Leadership Qualities 
Ability to motivate others, inspire cooperation, mediate and resolve conflict tactfully, and work collaboratively towards common goals 

Strategic Orientation 
Ability to think critically, with an aptitude for long-range planning in support of organizational mission, and experience with developing and monitoring goals and measurable outcomes 

Communication Skills 
Articulate, persuasive and engaging communicator, with strong listening skills, and ability/willingness to personally interact with alumni and students to share organizational messaging and promote participation 

Diversity and Inclusion 
Commitment to diversity and inclusion and respectful engagement of various constituencies with multiple interests and experiences 

Volunteer Participation 
Past volunteer experience and related leadership responsibilities 

Professional or Volunteer Expertise 
Professional or volunteer expertise in select industries that will support achievement of organizational goals, including: 

  • Audit / Accounting 

  • Business Development / Fundraising 

  • Communications / Public Relations 

  • Financial Services 

  • Government / Public Policy 

  • Human Resources / Career Services 

  • Non-Profit / Association Management 

  • Social Media / Digital Technology  

The Nominating Committee may disqualify any nominee for just cause.  Just cause may include, but is not limited to: 

  • Conflicts of interest 

  • Failure to comply with nomination procedures and timelines 

  • Failure to sign or violation of the Volunteer Code of Conduct 

  • Failure of a current or past board member to maintain a minimum attendance record at Board and committee meetings of 67% during their term of office without just cause
